My experiment was to try and create a complete, beautiful and fun to play collection of Solitaire games with JavaScript.

World of Solitaire has over 40 Solitaire games in beautiful full screen glory. It has all the features you'd expect from a top of the line Solitaire program. Statistics, leaderboards, undo, multiple decks, customizable backgrounds, animation and more.

Best of all, it's 100% JavaScript :)

Technology:

JavaScript, AJAX, JSON, YUI, Canvas

Offline use would be a killer feature - not sure how it could be done, exactly, but I'm setting up an old iMac G5 for my wife's grandparents, and her grandfather is a big-time Freecell player, coming from a Windows PC. Finding a good replacement for Windows' game has been a challenge. This is the best I've found, but they only have dial-up and I don't want him to have to connect just to load this game (even if he can just disconnect once the game is loaded).

Bug: After playing for extended (3+ hours) amounts of time, stuff acts oddly - For instance, clicking the deck would no longer reshuffle/bring cards out of the deck, click-to-drag would not work on random piles, and such. Otherwise, a very good game. Note: This may not be based on the amount of time played, but that was the only correlation that I saw.

Tested on Ubuntu 9.10.

I love the games, especially Pyramid Easy, but, when playing the other day the background went completely white. I don't think I did anything wrong, I reset my computer date with no luck. Any ideas what I did or what I can do to get it back ?

As other said, This the best solitaire rendition I've seen.

However, your card randomization could use a little work.

Also, I'm not sure how you play solitarie, but in every version I've played with 3 card draw, it reverses the deck when recycled. Such as, if you drew As Kd Qc as the first three cards, and wasn't able to use the Qc, the next time you recycled the deck and drew the cards, they would appear as Qc Kd As, where you would obviously be able to use the As.

The logic is as followed, when you're drawing the top three cards, you draw them facing down, then flip all three over, as opposed to your current method of drawing them from the deck facing up. In which case, they will be very similar, if not exactly the same, selections you had last recycled deck. (i.e. if you weren't able to play any cards, they would be exactly the same selections as the hand prior)

I'm inclined to say that it just isn't the correct method, but I'm not sure whether the method is standardized. It certainly makes the game much harder.

Hello

When creating the games on World of Solitaire I looked at how other Solitaire programs implemented the games and chose the most popular approaches.

Every Solitaire program tends implements things a bit differently.

By creating a version that most closely matches the most popular versions out there, I hoped that the most number of people would find them familiar.

Wow, WAY more efficient and smoother than anything Flash could do. Plus, it won't crash your browser and doesn't require plugins. Pro.

Not sure if the randomization is dependent on the power of the local machine, but christ almighty the grouping of the cards is absurd. On every deal your guaranteed to get doubles of at least one number in the same color (ie: 8 of spades, 8 of clubs). Worse yet, this tendency expresses itself even more as you flip over cards and cycle through the deck.

Because of the large size of the board, there are frequent large cursor moves. I constantly find myself bumping into the menu items and triggering them onto the screen when I am moving the mouse. This can get annoying pretty fast. It might be easier to have the menu along the left border to avoid this.

You can make the menu require a click to activate, instead of appearing on mouse over. You'll find that option under the Options menu.
