Slow? Not Working? Try it in Google Chrome.
From the Author:
NotCanvas is a way of using javascript and lots of div's to attempt to replicate some of the functionality of the html element.
It by no means can replicate all of the behavior, but it has the advantage of behaving identically on every browser (at least that's our goal).
Technology:
jQuery, javascript

Reply to this commentVery nice, but even if it were to be used on non-canvas supporting browsers, it looks like it would be too slow. (IE being the main reason?) Hopefully in the coming decade, this won't be much of a problem for us. (come on MS!)
I tried to do this with a simple game i was developing. But sadly, DIV-textures were just way too slow. (768 tiles x 5-10 randomly positioned divs in them.. grass) Even dropping the random and placing 3 lines was still too much for me. Admittedly, it was around 4 seconds wait, but it hangs the browsers / tabs, so it was unacceptable, and delaying the writes would only lengthen the wait, so i went back to images... :(
