Zygote Body

Launch Experiment
Not working? This is a WebGL experiment, so try running it with Google Chrome.
From the Author:
Explore a detailed 3D model of the human body. Zygote Body uses WebGL and taps directly into the GPU to accelerate rendering of 3D scenes. Take it for a spin and learn about different layers of anatomy by moving the slider or toggling layers on and off with the buttons. Not sure where something is? Try the search box!
Google, Inc. was the original creator of this project. It is now maintained by Zygote.
Technology:
WebGL, JavaScript

I must say that your Body Browser is quite user friendly and remarkable.
Is it my chrome browser or so I think... the 'Trapezius' muscle seems to be missing the insertion into the posterior border of the lateral third of the clavicle.
I understand that the Trapezius muscle is an important muscle that also supports the shoulder joint.
I suggest that you take a look into this aspect of the Body Browser.
Reply to this commentit is real cool
Reply to this commentall body is beautifull
Reply to this commentLoving it, im on a pos Nokia so its only a preview, th@ in mind, loving it. Did you share it with the cdc? They might share epidemiology records with you, you could model epidemiology history with accurate models of causative agents.
Reply to this commentMy Google chrome very slow , & type address are open the long time. or not open any page. regular crashed page. I will try again & again. Repeated pl. suggest this problem solution.
Reply to this commentQue massa... quem é do brasil comenta aew. ^^'
Reply to this commentIt would be nicer if you could switch quickly between male and female without lozing viewing angle and specifications. Maybe a direct link to a page that has corresponding information of the organs or body part (wikipedia maybe?)

Reply to this commentgreat application, looking forward to a full final product, but as a professional i say lose the underwear. keep up the great work and looking forward to more from you guys!
Reply to this commentwhy is it wearing underwear?
Reply to this commentit would be nice if you could move limbs and observe how muscle groups are impacted.
Reply to this commentThis is a really neat application but I find it lacking in the navigation aspect. I've been keeping an eye on the guys over at "Anomalous Medical" which it seems similar to but way more expansive and accessible. so far there at the head and neck and plan to expand further. If you like this, you should definitely check them out, their download and software are free and it works great on my computer, it's not hung up by the limitations of the browser you use.
Reply to this commentThis is great program, but I feel the accessibility could be improved. There have been many times I have wanted to see only parts of the body. Is there any way you could have a function where you hide one object at a time? Especially when I want to the the more inner parts, this would be greatly helpful
Reply to this commentI am disappointed by the clothes. Our reproductive systems are no different from those of other mammals on our world. Our obsessive desire to cover items with no personal significance is no different than the Catholic's church dark era of breaking off the genitalia of nude statues. A desire for personal modesty and privacy should in no way be confused with an aspect of our biology which is normal, healthy, and common across our planet. Curiosity as a result of our biology is also very normal and healthy and hiding aspects of our biology because of a psychological hang up is unacceptable.
Reply to this comment...Awkward.
Reply to this commentBeautifully done. To be properly explored it must be approachable from all angles and superior/inferior approach could be more easily handled. Is there a way to turn off all systems except the ones being explored? Turn off bones and vessels but leave muscles and nerves? It would be very cool to choose the combinations of systems you want to look at and turn off the rest.
Reply to this commentAwesome! You are missing the thymus!
Reply to this commentSeems to hang while loading. F5 restarts and it them proceeds a bit farther. Several of these & it is loaded. The only trouble then is that when it restarts it reverts to the female body therefore no way to load male version.
Reply to this commentNo good without the ability to pitch, roll, or rotate.
Reply to this commentThere is an ERROR at the aortic arch. The 3 branches of the arch are: brachiocephalic, left common carotid, and left subclavian artery. The brachiocephalic then splits into the right subclavian and right common carotid. Please fix this error!
Reply to this commentNot only that, the branches of the axillary artery and their sub branches are missing all together !
Reply to this commentAdd a peritoneum and omentum to make it correct!
Reply to this commentOne of the best apps ever. I'm not a doctor but i find it so useful. Thanks
Reply to this commentGuys this is such an excellent tool for artists and people in the 3D animation industry. Thanks!
Reply to this commentSuper quick, but I'm not running your standard consumer graphics solution. I *LOVE* that you can click specific items and get them to remain visible while everything else fades away.. GENIUS.
Reply to this commentsooooo slow
Reply to this commentSo glad this is back
Reply to this commentUsing this very effectively in my EMR class. I appreciate the detail and the ability to drill down to the individual component level. The ability to show the femur relative to the femoral artery, for example, is a granularity I have not been able achieve in the past. Students love it!
Reply to this commentToo much going on at once to distinguish things. Would be AWESOME if I could view in stereoscopic 3D to help differentiate stuff.
Reply to this commentVery useful tool for the studying gross anatomy student, and beginner figure drawing student. The Model may not be the most impressive in terms of detail, but couple this with great reference images and it becomes quite the study aid.
Reply to this commentYou can still pan and tilt in all directions, but only when you have a single element selected (which greys out everything else).
Reply to this commentWe used to be able to fully pan and tilt when Google was maintaining it.
Reply to this commentgood

Reply to this commentvery very intresting am so happy to see this.
Reply to this commentWe are using this as a model for layers in the reorganization of a division within an agency. I had searched in several academic resources without success, so was delighted to find this resource. Thank you so much for making this available.
Reply to this commentWhere are the subcarinal and perihilar lymph nodes? They are not labeled. :(

Reply to this commentThanks a lot for the help (sarcasm) this has been up for months and nothing can we at least get an update I think we've waited patiently enough.
Reply to this commentwhere's the body?
Reply to this commentthis page needs to hane a list of websites or something cause ths is not right thank you for your time shit backs
Reply to this commentDoes not work anymore!!
Reply to this commenti must visit
Reply to this commentWow. This is pretty cool now- I love the layers: muscle/ skeletal/ circulation... And the familiar interface (whoa, it's google earth/ google maps!!!), even though you can only rotate in one dimension. I'm hopping more is planned. This shit is about to JUMP OFF!
Reply to this commentNot as detailed as I would like it to be, but it serves its generally purpose. Hoping for a more in-depth version in the future.
Reply to this commentwebgl works in safari, go to prefrences , click advanced, check show develop menu in menu bar, click the develop menu, finally click enable webgl
Reply to this commentAll those engineers & they still can't find the clitoris!

Reply to this commentnecesito bajar google chrome es urgent esta mierda de internet explorer no anda ni el face
Reply to this commentI like the look of this experiment, but all of these webgl demos are horribly slow. Not very impressed so far by the tech.
Reply to this commentThen there's something wrong with your setup, freezer. If you can play older 3d games at a reasonable speed, WebGL should also be pretty fast.
Reply to this commentThis is a great tool for study of the anotomy and can be very helpful for parents to teach the children...
Reply to this commenttry my extension for chrome it extends google body browser: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cbjaohgihdejmfehglnjhlmdebhlhohc
Reply to this commentIs it still possible to experiment with your Chrome Extension? I like what you've done with 3D pan tilt zoom on the view. I find it frustrating that we can only pan and zoom on the standard model and viewer. You addition of tilt makes this much more useful for teaching.

Reply to this commentthis is way too cool
Reply to this commentFabulous! It sure would be possible to connect related text overlays, maybe even integrate educational video? What about avatars to meet at the model and discuss it?
Reply to this commentnice
Reply to this commentVery cool. The muscle labeled as achilles "tendon" is actually the soleus muscle and the tendon is usually called the calcaneal tendon. It would be cool if you could select the separate skull bones, and it should tell you which vertibra, rib or tooth you have selected instead of just saying rib, or lumbar vertebra or upper tooth, but all in all this thing is very neat. I payed a lot for similar software when I was in med school.
Reply to this commentYes they really need to articulate on the bones of the head in the thing. I was really disappointed when you couldn't do that.
Reply to this commentI thing you should warn them about that in the feedback section ;)
Reply to this commentAny plans to release a Spanish version of Body Browser ?
Reply to this commentNow I can pin point what used to the unknown in a doctors instructions. Can be better for all concerned.
Reply to this commentThe message I get is that I need Chrome or other browser... I'm using Chrome already and still it doesn't work.
Reply to this comment@Bruno You need to make sure you have the latest Beta version. It's the only one that has the OpenGL ES 2.0 integrated into the browser for this to work. I think Firefox Beta will display though or at least I'm going to try! ...but Chrome is now my favorite now. Especially w/ Chrome Store games and apps in latest version. Things like Gmail, Facebook and Twitter are easily integrated with 3rd party apps. Playing games and using cloud applications is a piece of cake. IE is really getting shoved to the back of the crowd! ^_^
Reply to this commentAwesome!!!! Another level of web experience!!
Reply to this commentnot working
Reply to this commentsimply amazing...
Reply to this commentFantastic!
Reply to this commentKeep pushing the limits of what a browser can do! This is immensely empowering to anyone who wants to take a role in their own diagnosis and treatment.
Reply to this commentDefinitely impressive.
Reply to this commentThis needs a button to remove the clothes. If you set the top layer to semitransparent, you can see through the clothes anyway. I see where you're coming from with the clothing, but it gets in the way if you're actually looking for any of the things under the clothing. In other words, your censorship is reasonable, but annoying and ineffective. Please make it optional :-)
Reply to this commentYes, and a little investigation proves there is skin under there

Reply to this commentFreezes entire system running latest stable 9.0.597.84 on OS X 10.6.6. Needs a hard power cycle to recover :(
Reply to this commentNice job, but Visiblebody is still better (but it's not free) because you can choose to exclude or set the transparency of a single muscle,or organ; here you can only set the transparency of the whole system. I had problems to view a single muscle that was covered by other muscles, for example pectoralis minor (I had to use the search option)
Reply to this commentamazing - what a nice job !
Reply to this commentThe source is here for anyone interested: http://bodybrowser.googlelabs.com/r3/scripts.js
Reply to this commentThanks for posting the source code!
Reply to this commentWhere's the sources?
Reply to this commentWOW!!! Super well done.
Reply to this commentThis is truly incredible. Props to everybody who collaborated in putting this information together - and making it easy to use.

Reply to this commentIt is amazing app, i hope it wil be free in the future. Thanks.
Reply to this commentI can't see her eyes, what ever I choose the mode view ...
Reply to this commentWell looks fantastic on my iMac running Webkit Nightly. Runs incredibly quick as well. Every website one day will be in webgl...Amazing stuff!
Reply to this commentI'm using Chrome 9.0 Beta (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit) but can't see Body Browser . I'm tired of downloading and reinstalling, enabling WebGL, etc. and nothing happens. The thing is that it used to work fine and suddenly it stopped working.
Reply to this commentHuh? It won't work and I have Chrome 8.0.552.224 beta. Just add feature detection rather than browser detection.
Reply to this commentGdzue sie instaluje?
Reply to this commentDoesn't work on Chrome OS...the Cr-48
Reply to this commentgentlemen... i think i've acquired a new fetish...
Reply to this commenthow can i get body browser?
Reply to this commentCould you add the male version in the future? And more detailed organs such as ear bones ,cochlea, retina in eyes and so forth.
Reply to this commentOne other thing: I really appreciate the ability to perform a text search for different parts of the body -- and then see the body suddenly rotate, bringing them into view, making them solid and the rest semi-transparent. This isn't a demo. This is a powerful web application. Thank you!
Reply to this commentBeautiful! Really demonstrates the power of WebGL and shows how useful it can be in the classroom. Particularly with biology. Cellular, molecular, evolutionary, ... a lot of possibilities. Incidentally, a friend of my wife just switched from FireFox to Chrome and now can't believe how lonnggg it took her to do so. As for me, the biggest problem I have with Chrome is that if you are trying out new approaches with JavaScript the pages you write will oftentimes be of the sort that other browsers can't keep up. What looks smooth in Chrome is downright jittery in FF and IE -- including the betas. But Safari can keep up in some cases then really falls down in others. Same is true of Opera.
Reply to this commentVery cool. Works perfectly and very fast with Firefox 4 beta 8 which respects your private life
Reply to this commentAs a health care practitioner this is a great patient education tool. Any plans to make the joints articulate?? Thanks!
Reply to this commentFor those who experience no textures in Firefox, set webgl.shader_validator;false in the about:config. it worked for me.
Reply to this commentOn Chrome 8 in Ubuntu, with an intel video card, but the pc freeze instantly. On Chrome 8 in ubuntu, with an ATI card, the demo works nicely. Does not tell me of any BETA version.
Reply to this commentExcellent the possibilities are endless.Car design, aircraft etc etc etc etc
Reply to this commentDoskonały pomysł ,podziwiam waszą inwencję.
Reply to this commentMale and Female would be great as an aid to Dr's medical records diagrams. Who do I talk to?
Reply to this commentPretty cool! But you could improve it by telling how each of the systems work and make it interactive! Having the person talk and move might be pretty cool!
Reply to this commentmerci google
Reply to this commentChromium Canary build, does not work on it ??? help !!
Reply to this commentCrashed my video card when I tried to look at just one joint.. And is it available with a male figure.. Excellent model though
Reply to this commentI'm sure it's very nice, but it won't let me in. It says I need Chrome Beta, and I'm using Chromium nightly. Doesn't allow Firefox 4b9, either. You should use feature detection instead of browser detection.
Reply to this commentOops, never mind. In Firefox you have to set webgl.enabled_for_all_sites in about:config to TRUE.
Reply to this commentImpressive, thank you very much and congrats ! How about an animation of our solar system ?
Reply to this commentVery Impressive! Woks fine on WinXP.
Reply to this commentWorks on Ubuntu 10.10 on Nvidia but not on intel i965 (even with Mesa body is still black)
Reply to this commentOnly one muscle layer is totaly USELESS
Reply to this commentEr du *fullstendig* idot !?!
Reply to this commentIt says, The following plug-in is unresponsive: Unknown. Would you like to stop it?
Reply to this commentWhen returning from screensaver, picture totally hoses up. Have to reload a couple of times for it to start working again. Windows XP Pro, Chrome Beta.
Reply to this commentI would say fully functional on my PC: openSUSE linux x64, FF 4.0 b7 on i7 860 3,6Ghz, Nvidia GTX260
Reply to this commentworking in Firefox beta 7 but no textures
Reply to this commentWell.. WebGL is supposed to be cross-platform, what's the point of preventing mozillas to try the body browser. Thou shall not be evil.
Reply to this commentExcellent job. Great tool for educating anyone about the human body. Would be nice to have both male and female versions. Thank you.
Reply to this commentA male form would be really useful, especially one with labeled muscles and such.
Reply to this commentNo it is not woking in Google chrome. I have installed Beta version.
Reply to this commentInstalled Chrome Beta. Went to Body Browser. Searched, and got results for a regular search.
Reply to this commentNow I'm eager to see the following. 3d cell. 3d sun. Time scale (as in pregnancy model mentioned above). Other animals. Plants. Buildings. Generic and specific models of processes. History. OK, I know this will all take time. This is a great addition to an ongoing great progression.
Reply to this commentWhy no MALE model? My 8 y/o son has a school project that would be perfect for...
Reply to this commentfinally a google earth for the body ... almost ;-) congrats great work! Sandy
Reply to this commentIf you run Mozilla Firefox 4.0b7, set webgl.shader_validator in about:config to false. Otherwise this demo do not work.
Reply to this commentdoesnt work in Google Chrome OS
Reply to this commentA bar to watch the timeline of pregnancy would be AMAZING!
Reply to this commentCan this be applied to iPad??? :)
Reply to this commentVery impressive. The future of learning.
Reply to this commentpfffffff im not impressed. iphone is way cooler ;)
Reply to this commentChocolate is even cooler!
Reply to this comment@ Webster, Don't worry, Dev should work fine!
