Reply to this comment
By Tyra Misoux on December 25, 2009

david, You might try "slickedit". I do not know about JS but use it for "C". It should be able to handle JS. The prog is quite expensive but worth every cent.

Reply to this comment
By Mr.doob on December 25, 2009

I use gedit, which only does syntax highlighting... Sometimes Netbeas, but I haven't find a proper IDE that does JS yet.

Reply to this comment
By A Ali on December 15, 2009

I noticed that all of the balls, regardless of size react the same when they are dragged. This seems just a little counter logical as a bigger size implies more mass and a greater inertial. In other words if two balls are dragged with the same force and thrown against the side of the window then the larger ball should travel a shorter distance.

Otherwise this is and excellent simulation.

I like this very much.

I can see this concept being extended to include tensile rules between the circle elements to teach structure of materials to students.

Even for displaying molecules and there reactions with other elements.

If the balls were all uniform, you could even start to model some fluid mechanics and the introduction of mixed solutions.

That's was a matter of performance. Choose:

I can't comment on the experiment, unfortunately!

"Unfortunately, Google Chrome is not yet available for your operating system. This experiment may not run properly in your current browser."

How lame is that? I always thought the main advantage of Javascript was that it is at least mostly platform-independent.

I can't believe this can't be running in a recent version of FF, I assume this is an attempt to get users to install Chrome.

Sorry Google, been there, done that, saw no reason to stick with it.

Reply to this comment
By Mr.doob on March 19, 2009

Cool, but this doesn't have anything to do with the experiment. Does it? If you want to speak with Google use a proper channel please. Oh, and it does work on FF, just the CSS doesn't get properly applied.

It runs fine in FF. Perhaps you should have taken the time to actually launch the experiment, rather than soap-boxing about Google. While java is platform independent, Webkit and Chrome are not. Development for platforms take time, and Google unsurprisingly developed Chrome for the most widespread platform. I'm sure Mac and Linux ports are not far behind.

My Favorite experiment... cool

I tried chaos theory on this...

Fill up the pool with too many balls just keep the mouse button pressed till you can no more see even a tiny portion of background. Then shake the largest ball (Hello!) vigorously and leave it.

Initially the going will be slow..... but slowly the ball will start to move faster and faster... probably with a right number of balls (which can be very less also), you will be able to create a total chaos... :)
