Hey! We highly recommend you launch this experiment in Google Chrome. It may run slower, or not at all, in other browsers.

Okay, I'll download Google Chrome I'm willing to risk it

From the Author:

As I was learning how to use <canvas> properly, I decided to port Another World (PC) and see if I can get it to run decently on a modern browser.

The result is quite incredible! The rewrite uses canvas polygon drawing to achieve 80fps+ on my 1.8ghz laptop.

During the experiment, I have learned a lot about how to optimize for speed, doing fast triple-buffering, anti-aliasing and whatnot. Was totally worth the time! :)

Javascript and <canvas>

(Author says) to everybody who requested: this game is not completable. It's something I wrote while being sedated on antibiotics :). I just wanted to play with . Scrolling isn't implemented, and there are lots of glitches. It opens up a lot for my next projects, which are coming soon on chromeexperiments! :)

Good, glitchy (such as not being able to get past the very first guard, the one after you get out of the cage and run past a screen). That one point makes this game unplayable. While this is very good, if it's not playable, it isn't a complete game.

Actually, if you press down next to the guard you killed with the cage, you get a gun you can shoot by pressing 'A'.

Dave:

"Flashback Next?"

Flashback isn't related to Out of this World (or Another World in europe). Flashback is only a .. spiritual successer. It also doens't use the same polygon type engine as Another World.

Problem. One has to hold the "down" key while the other guy is opening a door and we're being shot at. this causes the browser to scroll down so that the game screen is no longer visible. and then you die. better to place the instructions & comments about the game in a different window or frame.

Doesn't really do anything. Is there anyway to make the character break out of the cage? Is this suppose to be like this or am I missing something?

for some reason it crashed my computer. It might have been something else(like windows) but I think it was this. Up until it crashed it was a great game though.

Swing diagonally. Down+Right then Up+Left until you get a good swing going. Took me a while to figure it out. don't forget to pick up the gun! (press the gun button when you leave the cage)

I Love Another World !!!

It was awesome to play it in Chrome again!

Could you tell us more about how you did this? If you shared this I am sure some of us may muster the courage to port the whole game! You have a blog?
